Frequently Asked Questions

About Mission ECHT

What is Mission ECHT?

Mission ECHT is a nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental education, youth enrichment, and inspiring children and families to make thoughtful choices that benefit people, animals, and the planet.

We believe that meaningful change begins with education. By giving children opportunities to explore, ask questions, create, and participate in hands-on learning, we help prepare them to become informed and responsible members of their communities.

What does ECHT stand for?

ECHT represents four values at the heart of our work:

  • Environment

  • Cruelty-Free

  • Healthy Lifestyle

  • Transparency

These values guide our educational programs, community initiatives, partnerships, and organizational decisions.

What is Mission ECHT’s mission?

Our mission is to educate and empower children and communities through environmental education, hands-on enrichment, and practical opportunities to create positive change.

Our guiding belief is:

“If we want to change the future, we must first educate the children who will create it.”

Why was Mission ECHT founded?

Mission ECHT was created from the belief that children should have opportunities to understand the environmental challenges affecting their world and feel empowered to become part of the solution.

Rather than presenting environmental issues only as problems, Mission ECHT focuses on education, creativity, responsibility, and achievable actions that can produce lasting change.

Who does Mission ECHT serve?

Mission ECHT develops programs and educational opportunities for children, families, schools, and communities. Some programs may be designed for particular ages, grade levels, schools, communities, or geographic areas.

Eligibility and availability vary by program.

Where is Mission ECHT located?

Mission ECHT is based in Massachusetts and develops programs for local children, families, schools, and communities. Program locations may vary depending on the activity, school partnership, facility, and season.

Please review the relevant program page for current location information.

Is Mission ECHT affiliated with a school district or government agency?

Mission ECHT is an independent nonprofit organization. A program may be offered in cooperation with a school, municipality, community organization, or host facility, but that does not necessarily mean Mission ECHT is operated, funded, or endorsed by that organization.

Any formal partnership will be clearly identified in the applicable program materials.

Are Mission ECHT programs only about the ocean?

Programs may explore wildlife, ecosystems, water conservation, waste reduction, climate, sustainable food systems, gardening, pollution prevention, responsible consumption, cruelty-free choices, and healthy living.

Are your programs appropriate for children?

Yes. Mission ECHT strives to make its programs educational, engaging, and developmentally appropriate. Activities and discussions may be adapted according to the participants’ ages, grade levels, abilities, and learning needs.

Does Mission ECHT provide childcare?

Mission ECHT primarily provides educational and enrichment programming. The specific structure, supervision, schedule, and requirements of each offering will be explained in its program description and enrollment materials.

Families should not assume that every Mission ECHT activity is a licensed childcare service. Please contact us if you have questions about the classification or supervision structure of a particular program.

Do children need previous environmental knowledge to participate?

No. Children do not need prior environmental knowledge or experience. Our programs are intended to help participants learn through exploration, discussion, creativity, and hands-on activities.

How do I register my child for a program?

Visit the applicable program page and complete the interest or registration form. If you submit an interest form, Mission ECHT will contact you with availability and next steps.

Submitting an interest form does not guarantee enrollment or reserve a space. Enrollment is confirmed only after all required documents and payments have been received and Mission ECHT provides written confirmation.

Are scholarships or financial assistance available?

Scholarships or reduced-cost participation may be available for certain programs when funding permits. Availability depends on donations, grants, sponsorships, and the requirements of each program.

Families may contact Mission ECHT privately to ask about available assistance. Requesting assistance will not affect how a child or family is treated.

Can Mission ECHT bring a program to our school or community?

Yes. Mission ECHT welcomes inquiries from schools, parent organizations, libraries, municipalities, camps, community centers, and other organizations interested in environmental education or youth enrichment.

Program availability depends on scheduling, location, age group, facility requirements, staffing, and funding.

Can Mission ECHT customize a workshop?

In some cases, yes. Workshops may be adapted to a particular age group, environmental topic, curriculum goal, community need, event theme, or available timeframe.

Please contact us with the proposed date, location, number and ages of participants, requested topic, and approximate program length.

Does Mission ECHT work with underserved communities?

Expanding access to meaningful educational opportunities is an important part of our mission. Donations and partnerships may help Mission ECHT provide free or reduced-cost programs, workshops, materials, or participation opportunities for children and communities with limited access to enrichment resources.

Donations and Financial Support

Why does Mission ECHT need donations?

Donations help Mission ECHT develop and deliver educational programs, purchase learning materials, support instructors, rent appropriate spaces, provide community workshops, expand access for children, and cover essential operating costs.

Reliable financial support allows us to plan responsibly and serve more children and families.

How can I donate?

Donations may be made through the secure donation option on the Mission ECHT website. Additional giving methods may be available by contacting us directly.

Please do not send cash through the mail.

Are donations tax-deductible?

The deductibility of a donation depends on Mission ECHT’s current tax-exempt status, the nature of the contribution, and the donor’s individual circumstances.

Your donation acknowledgment will state whether Mission ECHT represented that the contribution was tax-deductible and whether any goods or services were provided in exchange. Donors should retain their receipts and consult a qualified tax professional for advice concerning their particular circumstances.

Will I receive a donation receipt?

Mission ECHT will provide an acknowledgment for eligible donations when the donor supplies accurate contact information. Online donors may receive an automated confirmation followed by any additional documentation required.

Please retain your receipt for your records.

How are donations used?

Donations may support:

  • Educational materials and supplies

  • Environmental workshops and events

  • Afterschool enrichment

  • Scholarships and reduced-cost participation

  • Instructor and program expenses

  • Facility and insurance costs

  • Community outreach

  • Website, technology, and administrative needs

  • Responsible development and operation of Mission ECHT programs

Unless a donation is accepted for a specific restricted purpose, Mission ECHT may use it where it is most needed to advance its charitable mission.

Can I direct my donation to a particular program?

Donors may indicate a preferred program or purpose. Mission ECHT will make reasonable efforts to honor accepted restrictions.

If a designated project is fully funded, delayed, canceled, or no longer practical, Mission ECHT may contact the donor or use the contribution for a closely related charitable purpose, as permitted by law and the terms under which the donation was accepted.

Can I make a recurring monthly donation?

If recurring giving is available through our donation page, donors may select a monthly contribution. Recurring donations provide dependable support and help Mission ECHT plan future programs.

Donors may request to change or cancel future recurring contributions according to the payment platform’s procedures. Cancellation does not ordinarily reverse payments already processed.

Can I donate in honor or memory of someone?

Yes. Donors may make a contribution in honor or memory of another person. Please include the individual’s name and any notification instructions with the donation.

Donation amounts will not be disclosed to the person being honored or to the recipient of a memorial notification unless the donor requests it.

Can my employer match my donation?

Possibly. Many employers offer charitable matching-gift programs. Contact your employer’s human resources department or matching-gift administrator to determine whether Mission ECHT and your contribution are eligible.

Mission ECHT can provide reasonable organizational information needed to process an eligible matching-gift request.

Does Mission ECHT accept corporate sponsorships?

Yes. We welcome conversations with businesses and organizations interested in sponsoring educational programs, community events, scholarships, supplies, or outreach initiatives.

A sponsorship does not allow a sponsor to control Mission ECHT’s educational content, compromise participant privacy, or require Mission ECHT to act inconsistently with its mission and values.

Can I donate supplies or equipment?

Mission ECHT may accept appropriate in-kind donations when they meet a current program need. Please contact us before delivering or purchasing supplies on our behalf.

For safety, storage, quality, and program reasons, Mission ECHT may be unable to accept certain items. An in-kind donation receipt may describe the donated property, but Mission ECHT does not assign the item’s monetary value. Donors are responsible for determining value for tax purposes.

Can I donate stock, property, or another non-cash gift?

Please contact Mission ECHT before initiating a noncash gift. Acceptance depends on the nature of the proposed contribution, applicable legal and administrative requirements, and whether the gift can be used or managed responsibly.

Does Mission ECHT accept grants?

Yes. Mission ECHT welcomes grant opportunities that align with our mission, preserve the integrity of our programs, and support environmental education, youth enrichment, community engagement, or equitable access.

Foundations and grantmaking organizations may contact us to request additional organizational information.

Can I request a refund of my donation?

Charitable donations are generally considered final. If a donation was made in error, duplicated, or processed in an incorrect amount, please contact Mission ECHT promptly.

Refund requests will be reviewed individually and may be affected by processing fees, funds already committed to a program, and applicable legal requirements.

Does Mission ECHT sell or share donor information?

Mission ECHT does not sell donor information. Donor and supporter information may be used to process contributions, issue receipts, respond to inquiries, maintain required records, and communicate about Mission ECHT’s work.

Information may be shared with trusted service providers when necessary to process donations or operate the organization, subject to appropriate privacy and security practices. Please review our Privacy Policy for additional information.

Can I donate anonymously?

Donors may request that their names not be publicly recognized. Mission ECHT may still be required to retain identifying information for payment processing, accounting, legal, audit, or regulatory purposes.

Will my name be publicly recognized?

Mission ECHT may recognize donors, sponsors, or partners unless they request anonymity. Recognition may appear on our website, at an event, in a report, or in other organizational materials.

Donation amounts will not ordinarily be published without the donor’s permission.

Volunteering and Community Participation

How can I volunteer?

Volunteer opportunities may be available for educational programs, events, community outreach, administrative projects, fundraising, and other activities.

Interested individuals should contact Mission ECHT and describe their interests, experience, availability, and preferred type of involvement.

Can teenagers volunteer?

Teen volunteer opportunities may be available depending on the activity, age requirements, supervision, and applicable policies. A parent or legal guardian’s permission may be required.

Volunteer service hours are verified only for hours that were approved in advance and completed satisfactorily.

Do volunteers working with children undergo screening?

Mission ECHT may require applications, references, interviews, training, identity verification, background checks, or other screening for roles involving children, confidential information, money, transportation, or significant organizational responsibility.

The requirements depend on the volunteer’s role and applicable laws and policies.

Can students complete community-service hours with Mission ECHT?

Possibly. Opportunities depend on current needs, the student’s age and abilities, supervision, scheduling, and the requirements of the school or organization requesting the hours.

Students should obtain approval before beginning service if formal documentation will be required.

Can I propose a project or event?

Yes. Mission ECHT welcomes thoughtful ideas that align with our mission. Please include the project’s purpose, intended participants, location, proposed timing, expected cost, and the support being requested.

Submitting an idea does not guarantee that Mission ECHT can sponsor, fund, or participate in it.

Potential partners may include:

  • Schools and parent organizations

  • Libraries and community centers

  • Municipal departments

  • Environmental organizations

All partnerships must be consistent with Mission ECHT’s mission, values, educational integrity, and child-safety expectations.

Can a business sponsor a specific event or program?

Yes, when the sponsorship is appropriate and supports the charitable and educational purpose of the program. Recognition opportunities and sponsorship terms will be discussed in advance.

Sponsorship does not constitute Mission ECHT’s endorsement of every product, service, position, or activity of the sponsoring organization.

Does Mission ECHT endorse products, companies, or political candidates?

Mission ECHT does not provide endorsements merely because an individual or organization makes a donation.

As a nonprofit organization, Mission ECHT conducts its activities according to applicable laws governing charitable organizations. Organizational communications and partnerships must support our mission and protect public trust.

Governance and Accountability

How is Mission ECHT governed?

Mission ECHT is governed and operated according to its organizational documents, applicable nonprofit laws, and internal policies. Its leadership is responsible for protecting the organization’s mission, overseeing resources, and supporting responsible program development.

How does Mission ECHT promote transparency?

Transparency is one of Mission ECHT’s core values. We seek to communicate clearly about our mission, programs, use of donations, partnerships, and organizational practices.

Certain information may remain confidential when necessary to protect children, families, donors, personnel, volunteers, legal matters, security, or the organization’s legitimate operations.

How can I request organizational or financial information?

Requests may be submitted through our contact page. Mission ECHT will provide information that is publicly available or legally required, while protecting confidential and personally identifiable information.

Privacy, Safety, and Communications

How does Mission ECHT protect children’s privacy?

Mission ECHT strives to collect only the information reasonably needed to operate its programs, communicate with families, protect participants, and meet legal or administrative requirements.

Information about a child should be submitted only by the child’s parent or legal guardian or by another person with appropriate authorization.

Will Mission ECHT use photographs of participating children?

Mission ECHT will follow its applicable photo and media-consent process. A child’s participation in a program does not automatically mean the child’s image may be used for marketing.

Parents and legal guardians should review and complete the relevant media-permission section during enrollment. Declining optional promotional photo permission will not affect a child’s eligibility to participate.

How can I stop receiving promotional emails?

Supporters may use the unsubscribe link in a promotional email or contact Mission ECHT directly. We may still send necessary transactional messages, such as donation receipts, registration confirmations, program changes, or responses to requests.

Where can I read the Privacy Policy?

The Mission ECHT Privacy Policy is available on our website. It explains how information may be collected, used, retained, and shared.
